Life After a Brain Injury: Building Back the Things That Matter

A brain injury or neurological condition doesn’t just change what you can do. It changes how the ordinary parts of the day work — making breakfast, getting dressed, catching a bus you’ve caught a thousand times before.

At Bridge to Best, this is where our heart is. We have a special interest in working alongside adults living with catastrophic and complex injuries, including brain injuries and other neurological conditions, and we understand the barriers that come with them.

We Start With Your Goals, Not a Checklist

We don’t just problem-solve. We take a functional approach, which means we start with what you want to get back to and work backwards from there.

Occupations are the essence of life — the everyday activities that give the day meaning and purpose. Getting back to cooking. Being comfortable on public transport again. Returning to the garden. Whatever that looks like for you, that’s the goal we’re building towards.

Which is why you’ll find our team building coffee tables, shooting hoops, and getting involved in an array of activities that most people wouldn’t picture when they hear “therapy.”

Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants, Working Together

Our occupational therapists assess your unique challenges and develop adaptive strategies to make daily activities more manageable — from dressing and bathing through to cooking and household chores.

Our therapy assistants then work in collaboration with your OT to put those strategies into practice, week after week, until goals turn into outcomes. We match a TA to the individual and their needs. Sometimes more than one TA is the right answer, and we’ll say so.

We also work to empower you and your support system with the knowledge to modify activities, environments and equipment yourselves. The aim isn’t dependence on us — it’s independence for you.

Funding

We collaborate with funding bodies, clients and treating professionals to get the best outcomes possible. We work within NDIS, NIISQ, iCare, TAC, WorkSafe VIC and private funding, and offer medico-legal assessments by consultation.

Your needs will change throughout your journey. There will be times you need us, and times you won’t.
